Scottish Parliament Public Petitions Committee Monday 4 December 2000 (Afternoon)

[The Convener opened the meeting at 14:07]

The Convener (Mr John McAllion):

I welcome everybody to the 18th meeting this year of the Public Petitions Committee of the Scottish Parliament. This is the first meeting that the Public Petitions Committee has held in Glasgow. I would like to thank Glasgow City Council for its hospitality and for the excellent facilities that it has made available to members of the committee. The rooms are superior to those that we use in Edinburgh every week, but I would say that, as a son of Glasgow who was born and raised in the city. I am delighted to be back in Glasgow.

I remind members that we have a fairly heavy agenda. We have six different groups of speakers and 15 petitions to address. I ask members to keep their questions tight and to the point. Please ask questions of the petitioners, rather than make statements.

We have received no apologies.
