The Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill - letter from the Convener of the Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee

Letter from the Convener of the Equalities Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee, to the Convener, 4 February 2022

Dear Convener,

The Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill

Thank you for your letter of 21 January inviting any comments from the Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee as input to your Committee’s scrutiny of the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill.

Regrettably, we have no capacity within our current work programme to offer specific input at this time. We are grateful, however, for you highlighting the response to your call for views from the Scottish Food Coalition.

That response refers to our predecessor committee’s report of 2018, ‘Getting Rights Right’ which recommended that parliamentary committees should seek to apply a human rights-based approach to scrutiny. This Bill presents a tangible opportunity early in this parliamentary session for the Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee to demonstrate how a human rights-based approach can be central to scrutiny.

Please be assured that the clerks to the EHRCJ Committee are keeping a watchful eye on developments within your scrutiny and will ensure we are kept up to date with progress.

Yours sincerely,

Joe FitzPatrick MSP

Convener of the Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee
