The Public Audit Committee looks at reports published by the Auditor General for Scotland to examine whether public money is being spent efficiently and effectively.
On 16 December 2025, the Auditor General for Scotland published the 2024/25 audit of Historic Environment Scotland.
The report says:
"There are unacceptable weaknesses in the governance arrangements, which point to a culture of non-compliance. It is critical that strong controls are in place to prevent the risk of fraud and demonstrate that value for money is being achieved".
