Economy and Fair Work Committee

Pre-Budget Scrutiny 2023-24

Background

The Economy and Fair Work Committee is undertaking pre-budget scrutiny ahead of the publication of the Scottish Government’s Budget for 2023-24.

In line with the recommendations of the Budget Process Review Group (BPRG) report, Scottish Parliament committees undertake pre-budget scrutiny, in advance of the publication of the Scottish budget.

The purpose of pre-budget scrutiny is for Committees to provide comment to the Scottish Government, in the form of a letter or report, at least six weeks prior to the Scottish budget with the aim of influencing the budget when priorities are set.

The Committee agreed at its meeting on 29 June 2022 to focus its pre-budget scrutiny on women’s contribution to the economy, and the impact of the cost crisis on businesses.

Following the evidence sessions, the Committee will consider the evidence heard and write to the Cabinet Secretary with its recommendations.
