The Convener (Edward Mountain)

Welcome, everyone, to the sixth meeting of the Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee. Everyone is reminded to switch off their mobile phones. Apologies have been received from Stewart Stevenson, who is unable to attend the meeting.

Agenda item 1 is the appointment of a European Union reporter. Paragraph 4 of the paper from the clerks outlines the role of the EU reporter. In addition, paragraph 5 outlines a proposed expansion to the role in relation to reporting to the committee on issues arising from the Brexit vote that are relevant to the committee’s remit. I invite members’ nominations for the role.

I nominate Mike Rumbles, who would be an excellent EU reporter.

I am more than happy to second that nomination.

Do members agree to the nomination?

Members indicated agreement.

I thank the convener, Peter Chapman, Richard Lyle and all the other members. I will work closely with you all in my reporter role.

The Convener

Thank you, Mike. That concludes the public part of the meeting. At the next meeting on 26 October 2016, the committee will hear from the Minister for Transport and the Islands on issues relevant to the committee’s remit.

10:02 Meeting continued in private until 11:15.
