The Assigned Colleges (University of the Highlands and Islands) Order 2018 (Draft)

Introduction

  1. The Scottish Government laid the Assigned Colleges (University of the Highlands and Islands) Order 2018 [Draft] in the Scottish Parliament on 26 September 2018.

  1. The instrument assigns Argyll College to the University of the Highlands and Islands as the regional strategic body for the area so that Argyll College may become a fundable body and receive funding from the regional strategic body instead of receiving funding contractually through North Highland College.

  1. This instrument is subject to the affirmative procedure.


Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee Consideration

  1. The Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee considered the instrument on 23 October 2018 and raised no points in relation to it.


Education and Skills Committee Consideration

  1. On 7 November, the Education and Skills Committee took evidence on the Assigned Colleges (University of the Highlands and Islands) Order 2018 [Draft] from the Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Richard Lochhead MSP.

  1. Following the evidence session, the Minister moved S5M-14432 - That the Education and Skills Committee recommends that the Assigned Colleges (University of the Highlands and Islands) Order 2018 [Draft] be approved. The Committee agreed to the motion.
