Resolved, That the Parliament notes that the Enterprise and Culture Committee supports the principles of the Bill; believes that St Andrew's Day should be a day of national celebration and strongly supports the Scottish Executive's commitment to achieving this objective; notes that the Enterprise and Culture Committee's Stage 1 report concludes that the Bill does not fulfil this purpose and would not place a statutory obligation on employers to grant St Andrew's Day as part of employee holiday entitlement; seeks to uphold the consensus across the Parliament that we should only legislate where necessary and when we can give effect to that legislation; believes that there is further work to be done to develop proposals to celebrate St Andrew's Day; agrees to refer the St Andrew's Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Bill back to the Enterprise and Culture Committee for a further report on the general principles, and considers that further proposals should be developed for the celebration of St Andrew's Day.

Of course, at the end of the day, the report will be pub...

The Conservative party consistently talks down our NHS, and it is doing so on the day we have announced that no in-patient is waiting more than six months, no out-patient is waiting more than six months, waiting for heart treatment investigations is down, waiting lists are down and we have the lowest ever number of in-patients and out-patients who are waiti...

As the Deputy First Minister said the other day, it would be utterly irresponsible of ministers not to look seriously at Scottish Enterprise's budget.
Official Report Meeting date: 18 April 2006

Justice 2 Committee, 18 Apr 2006

We think that an increase of about 20 is right, although we cannot be exact and say that that will be the right number for ever and a day. However, such an increase will maintain a proper balance between the numbers of full-time and part-time sheriffs.Part-time sheriffs provide an essential service by keeping the business of the sheriff courts running while...

However, the First Minister should show a bit more gratitude. There are two full shopping days until Christmas and "Lucky Jack" has never been given as many plugs as I have given it today.I draw this year's hostilities to a close by wishing the First Minister, the Presiding Officer and everyone else in Scotland a very happy Christmas.
