Her public service as Duchess of York, as Queen Consort—especially during the second world war—and as Queen Mother was itself a fulfilment of her Strathmore family motto:"In thou God I put my trust without change to the end".Before we move to the motion of condolence to the royal family, let us pause to recall the Queen Mother's love of her native Scotland, her active support as patron of so many institutions in our cities and her enjoyment in participating in community life in our countryside.Let us all stand for a minute's silence.
