People must have confidence in that local decision making, however, and the guidance should be followed. We seem to be getting closer to that position, but without actually getting there.
In this day and age, it is reprehensible that an organisation such as the BBC treats its workers like that. We will get the results of the strike ballot tomorrow.
That could give us the chance to have some time away, to think about what we are doing, to get some focus for the year ahead and then to get on with it, rather than starting with meetings and then stopping and re-evaluating where we are.
We have set aside two meetings to take evidence; our third meeting will be with the Minister for Communities. We must be sensible about getting the best responses from our evidence sessions.
Aside from the legislative programme, I hope that over the next four years we will try to achieve a balance in our work so that we do not get totally taken up by local government issues at the expense of transport ones, or the other way round.
That would alert the Executive to the fact that it must address the problem and would certainly ensure that we get an answer. My worry is that we have only two weeks.
