The issue here is not about whether a member's bill should get support when it gets to stage 1, because it is evidently the case that when a bill goes before the Parliament at stage 1 the Executive has a majority.
Is there any way that we can bring in Berwick and Carlisle, so that people can get rail concessions? They would be able to get those concessions if there were a station in Galashiels, but they cannot get them in Berwick and Carlisle, which seems anomalous.
I know of one chap whose business went bust and who was dying to get rid of his properties. He would have loved a compulsory purchase order to be served on them, simply to get rid of them.
