That indicates that the position is a relatively unimportant one and a matter of no great ceremony or dignity. The best way forward on this is either for the committee to choose a permanent deputy convener, or to agree that when the committee needs a deputy convener it will be decided on the spot; that is 5(b), and I am quite happy to go with that.
