However, I believe that, if we are going to make legislation, we should make the best legislation that we can. It should not be determined at a later date that another route would be better simply because of the number of people who appeal.
It would be a good idea to have some joint meetings—to share information on the best way of raising awareness. We also have to consider how to organise care within the NHS.
The responses that we have received have ranged from "This training was life changing" to a letter that was, at best, vitriolic, which said that we were vulgar and that we were promoting homosexuality.
It is recognised that conveners know their committees, know how they work and know the best way forward for them. I do not see why that should be any different in the future.
At our away day, we will no doubt discuss how best to do that. Pre and post-Council scrutiny will also take up some of our time, as will—in light of our discussions on food supplements—scrutiny of the implementation and transposition of EU legislation.
