Private renting used to offer a degree of flexibility especially when long-term letting was not the primary activity for that landlord. These short-term tenants are now in the melee of all tenants, while the properties that were once let on short term leases (not holiday lets) are now not being let at all because the owner needs security of tenure for their primary activity.
