Recommendation
The Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee recommends to the Parliament that the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) (Extension to Maritime Activities) Order 2026 [draft] be approved.
To this end, the Committee's call for views asked a series of questions regarding the additional barriers to participation in sport and physical activity faced by people from marginalised groups.
Purpose of the Bill
The Bill contains a provision stating that its purpose is to acknowledge the wrongfulness and discriminatory effect of past convictions for certain historical sexual offences which criminalised same-sex sexual activity between men that would now be legal.
Only last week, we had to have three committee meetings to get our climate change report published in time to meet the Government’s last-minute deadlines.
The report highlights that well-paid, secure work is a key guard against poverty and that, in order to get more families into work, we need a focus on childcare.
Is the timeline for that being discussed, and are you still confident that that is going to be adhered to? It would be helpful to get that in the Official Report. Yes.
I felt, in reading the Scottish Sentencing Council’s submission, that it had about it a terrible whiff of, “How can we get rid of this annoying inquiry by not really responding to it and doing so in the shortest possible way?”
