It is for health boards to determine the number of intensive therapy units required in their respective areas, in light of local needs and circumstances.The Report from the Audit Group of the Scottish Intensive Care Society Audit Group (SICSAG), which was published on Friday 28 January 2000, provides a very positive picture of intensive care in Scotland. It indicates that there are currently around 130 adult general ITU beds in Scotland, excluding coronary care units, neurosurgical ITU beds, cardiac surgical intensive care and paediatric intensive care beds.
