We go to meetings across the country, and one of the first things that people say to us is, “We’re really sorry—there is quite a lot of apathy in this community, so you’ll struggle to get people involved.” It probably goes back to our democracy, because if people feel that decision making is distant, they get on with their family lives and get less engaged in broad community activity.
