Supported by: David Torrance*, Mark Ruskell*, Bill Kidd*, Liam McArthur*, Richard Lyle*, Edward Mountain*, Kenneth Gibson*, Liam Kerr* *S5M-12067 Liam McArthur: Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (OREC) That the — Parliament welcomes the report published on 2 May 2018 by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (OREC) and its assessment of the value of further public support for the tidal stream and wave energy sectors; understands that the report confirms that wave and tidal energy are genuine carbon-free alternatives; supports the use of non-carbon energy sources in order to meet global climate commitments; believes that investment in, and development of, these programmes could help reduce costs and enable Scotland to exploit the competitive advantage that it enjoys; considers that the industry remains well placed to deliver economic growth, including in many rural and island areas of Scotland, and, therefore, calls on government and industry to work together to ensure there is the right support and regulatory environment that will allow the potential benefits of wave and tidal power to be fully realised.
