*S5M-04589 Tom Arthur: Young Women in STEM Event That the Parliament welcomes news — of the successful visit that took place ahead of International Women s Day by female pupils at St ’ Benedict s High School in Linwood and Gleniffer High School in Johnstone to some of ’ Renfrewshire s biggest employers, to learn about a career in the science, technology, engineering ’ and mathematics (STEM) sector; understands that in these areas, women are under-represented and that the visit was designed to encourage young women to apply for modern apprenticeships in the STEM sector; considers it vital that young women know that they are valued for the skills and knowledge that they provide to their roles, as they enter the world of work; believes that this visit provided many young women with valuable inspiration, as well as an insight into the STEM sector; considers that similar events should become more frequent throughout Scotland, to ensure that all young women receive the same encouragement; commends all the employers who took part in the event, and wishes all the pupils at both schools the best in pursuing their careers.
