As Rape Crisis Network Europe confirms,"legal reform and changes in the investigation and prosecution of rape have had little, if any, impact on convictions".That is why it is important that work to update the law is accompanied by work to change the confused and prejudiced societal attitudes that remain towards rape and violence against women in all its forms. It is shocking to read that 26 per cent of Scots—men and women—who were surveyed only last year thought that a woman bore some responsibility for being raped if she wore revealing clothing or if she had been flirting.
