*S5M-12550 Daniel Johnson: Tourist Tax in Edinburgh That the Parliament congratulates the — City of Edinburgh Council on its successful vote to propose a Transient Visitor Levy (TVL), or "tourist tax"; understands that this will be a minor tax placed on tourists visiting the city; believes that over four million tourists visit Edinburgh every year and that the city has one of the most regularly highest occupancy rates for hotels anywhere outside London; welcomes the possibility that the introduction of TVL could raise up to £29 million a year; notes that the money would be used to increase funding to areas where tourism puts pressure on the city s infrastructure; further ’ notes that the vote will now lead to further engagement with visitors, residents and businesses before plans for a formal consultation are put in place, and calls on the Scottish Government to authorise powers to the council to implement this tax.
