It is Scotland’s only oil refinery and a key industrial site. As a result of the announced closure, it is understood that more than 400 workers have now received redundancy notices.

However, I would be pleased to engage with Mr Melville about what more we can do for that important site. Many historic buildings that are popular with visitors, such as Dunkeld cathedral, face extensive bills for repair and maintenance.
SEPA has yet to grant an operating permit for the site’s opening. I recently met outside Parliament campaigners who are concerned that local voices and concerns about the site have yet to be answered and that consultation and information sessions are not taking place with the new site’s operator.
Therefore, will the cabinet secretary work with Glasgow City Council to ensure that there is rapid use of the visitor levy powers to ensure that some of the money that could be generated from the related economic activity would be invested back in social purposes?
