Committee meetings
20 April 2022: The Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee took evidence from the petitioners and then wrote to the Scottish Government, the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission, and Thornton Greyhound track.
Official Report of meeting 20 April 2022
Following receipt of responses from the Scottish Government, the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission and Thornton Greyhound track, the Committee received a letter from the Dogs Trust, the RSPCA and Blue Cross which states they “have recently conducted internal policy reviews on the welfare of racing greyhounds. As a result of these reviews, we are calling for greyhound racing to come to a phased end.”
The Convener then wrote again to the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission to ask how it intends to respond to the issue of racing greyhound welfare in light of the completion of the Dogs Trust, RSPCA and Blue Cross review.
The Committee will consider the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission’s response.
16 November 2022: The Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee agreed to consider the petition as part of its work programme at their next meeting.
