  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 08 February 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03078

That the Parliament commends the BMA Scotland campaign #BMAPeriods, and considers that NHS staff having access to free period products in the workplace is an important health and wellbeing issue; commends NHS boards that have taken steps to make free period products accessible to staff and patients, and calls on all NHS boards to establish good workplace policies and practice in respect of period dignity; understands that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it more challenging for NHS workers to access period products during working hours; welcomes steps taken by BMA Scotland in support of staff welfare, such as providing doctors with care boxes that contain period products and other items for their comfort and wellbeing; looks forward to the Scottish Government working with NHS boards to reassure patients and workers across Scotland that policy and practice will be improved, and encourages employers across Scotland to make free period products available within the workplace.
