That the Parliament expresses its sadness at the death of 100-year-old former RAF Pathfinder pilot, Flight Lieutenant Ernie Holmes DFC; notes that Mr Holmes celebrated his 100th birthday in January by being presented with a card from Her Majesty The Queen, as well as a bottle of whisky and personal message from Prince Charles from the Lord-Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross; considers that Mr Holmes led a remarkable life, including being the Captain of a Lancaster bomber crew selected to join the elite Pathfinder force during the Second World War, being shot down over German-occupied Holland, being interrogated by the Gestapo before being sent as a prisoner-of-war to Stalag Luft III; understands that the Squadron HQ of the East of Scotland Universities Air Squadron, based at Leuchars, was recently renamed the Holmes Building in honour of Mr Holmes, and that he was presented with the Medal of Remembrance by the Netherlands defence attaché for his part in the liberation of the country, and expresses condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
