That the Parliament notes the publication of the report by the Right to Food UK Commission in October 2026, A Roadmap to Delivering Food Security to All by 2035; understands that the Commission was established by Ian Byrne MP in November 2025 to gather evidence on the causes of food insecurity and hunger across the UK and identify measures to address them; notes the report’s findings on the relationship between food insecurity, rising living costs, falling incomes and barriers to accessing sufficient, nutritious and affordable food; further notes its estimate that food insecurity costs the UK economy more than £298 billion, and its findings on the associated impacts on public health, the life chances of children and young people and wider societal wellbeing; calls on the Scottish Government to consider the Commission’s findings and recommendations and to take forward appropriate action within its devolved responsibilities; acknowledges the report’s proposals for immediate measures to alleviate food insecurity, alongside its recommendations on how these could be funded, as a contribution to the development of effective policy and practical action; believes that everyone in Scotland should have access to sufficient, nutritious and affordable food, and that this should be recognised as a right rather than being dependent on charitable provision, and calls on the Scottish Government to consider how the right to food can be further recognised and protected in Scotland, including through the development of an appropriate legislative framework, building on work undertaken during the previous parliamentary session, and to identify the duties, resources and measures required to ensure that everyone can access sufficient, nutritious and affordable food.
