Recognising Simple Things Fermentations and Glasgow's Independent Brewing Industry

  • Submitted by: Zen Ghani, Glasgow Cathcart and Pollok, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 04 November 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-01889

That the Parliament recognises Simple Things Fermentations as the only brewery based in the Glasgow Cathcart and Pollok constituency; notes that the independent brewery was founded by Phil Sisson in 2019 and is run by Phil and Ewan Cockburn, who share a passion for quality, creativity and exploring lesser-known beer styles; understands that the brewery has developed a distinctive range of beers, combining traditional brewing techniques with contemporary ideas, including its Big Ideas Series, core range and seasonal releases, and that its beers are sold in pubs across Glasgow and Scotland; notes that its Tenement Beer pays tribute to Glasgow's distinctive tenement heritage and the city's iconic tenement buildings; recognises the brewery's commitment to quality ingredients and traditional fermentation methods, with all its beers being vegan-friendly, unfiltered, unpasteurised and naturally carbonated; commends Phil and Ewan for building and growing an independent business that has supported the local economy for a number of years and for bringing something distinctive to the southside of Glasgow; acknowledges that small independent breweries are the backbone of Scotland's brewing industry, contributing to local employment, innovation and communities, and wishes Simple Things Fermentations continued success as it grows and develops its reputation within Scotland's independent brewing scene.
