That the Parliament notes the ongoing industrial dispute involving EIS-FELA members in the Welding and Fabrication Department at City of Glasgow College; understands that concerns have been raised regarding exposure to welding fumes and the adequacy of respiratory protective equipment available to staff and students; notes reports that the dispute has continued for more than seven months; recognises the importance of ensuring safe working and learning environments and reducing occupational health risks wherever possible; acknowledges the vital contribution that skilled welders make to Scotland’s economy, manufacturing, infrastructure and just transition ambitions, at a time when employers continue to report skills shortages across a range of technical trades; welcomes the support shown by the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the wider trade union movement in advocating for the health, safety and wellbeing of staff and students; reaffirms the importance of fair work principles in Scotland’s further education sector, and believes that urgent dialogue can secure a swift and lasting resolution to the dispute.
