Rutherglen’s 900 Bags of Kindness Initiative

That the Parliament welcomes the 900 Bags of Kindness project, which is being carried out as part of the Rutherglen 900 celebrations; acknowledges that 2026 marks the 900th anniversary of Rutherglen receiving the status of Royal Burgh via Royal Charter from King David I of Scotland; notes that a series of events have taken place throughout the year to mark the occasion; recognises that the project aims to collect and donate 900 bags of much-needed staples to local foodbanks; highlights that the worthwhile initiative is led by the Rutherglen Churches Together group, which aims to bring local faith communities and groups together to support the work of Trussell Trust foodbanks in Rutherglen, Whitlawburn and Cambuslang; congratulates the organisers, Rutherglen Churches Together and Rutherglen Rotary Club, for donating 900 reusable tote bags to the project; thanks all participating churches, local groups, schools and individuals that have worked on the project and donated to it, and hopes that the Rutherglen 900 celebrations can further drive awareness of helping others and supporting people in communities.
