That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the soaring demand for mental health services, including in the Falkirk East and Linlithgow constituency; notes that the Mental Health Foundation cites post-2008 austerity, the global pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis as contributory factors to a UK-wide mental health crisis; further notes recent research, which indicates that increased demand is being accompanied by growing insecurity within the mental health labour force; notes the belief that trainee counsellors require better support to overcome the inequalities, challenges and barriers that they face before qualifying, and recognises the role that such support could play in helping to meet the rising demand for mental health provision.
