That the Parliament urges the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade to review the UK Government's decision not to fund a planned upgrade to the Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) project; notes that the LHCb has made more UK-led scientific discoveries than any other particle physics experiment in history; further notes that the LHCb would have been the primary instrument for the discovery of new particle physics phenomena for at least the next three decades; recognises that, since this international project’s inception, the UK has played a leading role; believes that the UK’s funding withdrawal would weaken its international standing and cast doubt on UK involvement in future projects, and regrets what it sees as the significant impact that the withdrawal of funding might have on the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and scientists across the UK.
