That the Parliament celebrates Shetland Wool Week 2026, which will take place between 27 September and 3 October; understands that Shetland Wool Week began 17 years ago to celebrate Britain’s most northerly native sheep, Shetland’s textile industry and its rural farming communities; understands that throughout Wool Week, events will take place at various locations across Shetland, including hands-on workshops and classes, talks, exhibitions, tours and social events; congratulates designer Helen Robertson on being selected as Wool Week Patron; understands that Helen’s appointment as patron recognises her skill, creativity and commitment to sharing Shetland’s knitting traditions, with her work blending traditional techniques with innovative approaches; notes that Helen exclusively designed the official 2026 Shetland Wool Week knitting pattern, the Birsie Beanny hat, with its patterns reflecting Helen’s work and inspirations, including Shetland lace traditions; believes that the popularity of Shetland Wool Week reflects the vibrancy and creativity of Shetland’s textile sector; commends the hard work of the organisers, and wishes everyone involved a successful and enjoyable Wool Week.
