  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 02 September 2026
  • Motion type: Amendment
  • Motion reference: S7M-01022.3
  • Current status: Due to be taken in the Chamber on Thursday, 03 September 2026

As an amendment to motion S7M-01022 in the name of Shirley-Anne Somerville (Eradicating Child Poverty, the Scottish Government’s Defining Mission), leave out from “notes” to end and insert “recognises that child poverty remains a persistent challenge in Scotland; regrets that the Scottish Government missed its statutory interim child poverty target and remains on course to miss its 2030 target; believes that increasing welfare spending alone will not eradicate child poverty and must be accompanied by action to grow the economy, make work pay and support parents into secure employment; further believes that affordable childcare, high-quality education and secure housing are essential to improving children’s life chances; criticises the Scottish Government for failing to deliver previous commitments to close the attainment gap and provide free school meals to all primary pupils, and calls on the Scottish Government to work with other political parties to create a new credible plan to tackle child poverty and enhance opportunities for young people.”
