Music, Dementia Awareness and Alzheimer Scotland

That the Parliament recognises and commends Johnny Collington, originally from Irvine and raised in Lanarkshire, for his work using music to support people living with dementia; notes that Mr Collington was inspired to take up the guitar following his father Stan’s diagnosis with dementia, using music as a way to connect with him during his care; further notes that his father, Stan, originally from Motherwell, sadly passed away in February aged 99; commends Mr Collington for his regular performances in care homes and community settings across Scotland, bringing live music to people with dementia and their families; welcomes his upcoming performances at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in support of Alzheimer Scotland, raising awareness of dementia and the role of music in improving wellbeing and connection, and commends his dedication to using his personal experience to support others, promote understanding of dementia, and contribute to the work of Alzheimer Scotland.
