That the Parliament welcomes the return of Scottish Opera’s much-loved annual primary schools tour to Motherwell and Wishaw with The Dragon of the Western Sea; notes that the tour runs throughout the spring and summer terms and visits schools across Scotland, supporting teachers in delivering aspects of the curriculum for excellence; recognises that the programme gives up to 100 P5 to P7 pupils the opportunity to take part in a special performance day, during which Scottish Opera teaching artists help them stage a 30-minute all-singing, all-dancing show with full use of props and costumes; acknowledges that the opera tells the story of the 14th century Chinese commander, Admiral Zheng He, and his voyages to Indonesia, India, Arabia and Africa in search of trade, treaties and treasure; welcomes the way in which Scottish Opera’s children’s operas make learning fun, creative and inspiring, and understands that, over the years, the primary schools tour has reached and inspired over 850,000 children across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland.
