Tribute to the Life and Work of Journalist David Gow

That the Parliament notes with great sadness the passing of David Gow on 3 November 2025; recognises what it sees as his outstanding career as a Scottish journalist and trade unionist, specialising in analysing and reporting on geopolitical change and its impact on Europe, and his position as a respected and influential voice in Scottish journalism for over 50 years; acknowledges his work with The Scotsman and The Guardian, including roles as European business editor and Germany correspondent, as well as his freelance reporting from Brussels, Bonn and Berlin, France and New York City; recognises his service as a trustee of the National Union of Journalists, his support for the David Hume Institute and his fellowship at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, where he led its Scotland-Europe Initiative; notes also his voluntary contributions to the British Red Cross at its Leith Walk shop in Edinburgh; expresses gratitude for his remarkable contributions to journalism, public service and Scottish civic life, and extends condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
