  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour
  • Date lodged: Monday, 01 July 2024
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-13828
  • Current status: Fallen

That the Parliament congratulates the pupils and staff at Bargeddie Primary School on achieving the Gold Rights Respecting School Award, joining, it understands, a small but growing number of schools in North Lanarkshire that have achieved gold status; acknowledges that the award is granted by UNICEF UK to schools that have fully embedded children’s rights into their policies, practices and ethos; understands that to achieve the Gold Rights Respecting award, schools are evaluated by a professional adviser, who assesses the school’s rights respecting work and the impact that has been made through embedding children’s rights into the curriculum; believes that, in Gold Rights Respecting Schools, pupils see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and are advocates for social justice, fairness and children’s rights at home and abroad; commends the teachers, staff and pupils at Bargeddie Primary for all their hard work to fully embed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child ethos into the life of the school, and wishes them the very best for the future.
