Strips4Malawi and Penicuik Athletic Youth Football Club

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 15 August 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10144

That the Parliament congratulates Penicuik Athletic Youth Football Club on its charitable efforts to donate football strips, bibs and balls to youth football academies in Malawi; understands that its multiple donations provided since December have been supplied through Strips4Malawi to both Play Football Malawi in Lilongwe and Ekweiweni Tafika Sports Academy; notes that the Strips4Malawi initiative aims to provide new and good condition used youth football team strips to partner youth sports academies in Malawi, in a bid to encourage participation in sport among some of the most deprived young people in the country; understands that these donations make an invaluable difference to some of the poorest children in the developing world, offering them an opportunity to play football with a full strip, which engenders a sense of pride and confidence in playing the sport, encouraging them to maintain the practice and continue to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of doing so, and pays credit to the members of Penicuik Athletic YFC for their generous charitable endeavours.
