To ask the Scottish Government how it encourages testing for arial fibrillation.

The Scottish Government’s Heart Disease Improvement Plan (HDIP) was published in 2014 and identified six priorities, one of which is Arrhythmias. Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a related condition and can cause events such as heart attacks and strokes; it may produce few or no symptoms so people do not seek medical advice or investigation. NHS Boards are expected to treat those with AF in line with the guidance in Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) Guideline 94 ‘Cardiac Arrhythmias in Coronary Heart Disease’. The expectation is that AF should generally be managed in primary care and a simple pulse check can identify if someone is at risk.

To ask the Scottish Government how it is helping ScotRail to meet its service arrival targets, broken down by (a) region and (b) journey.

For 2016-17, the PPM (Public-performance-measure) targets by region are as follows:

Officials from Transport Scotland meet regularly with ScotRail and Network Rail, to review system performance and to challenge both the operator and the network to improve their service standards.

To ask the Scottish Government what services will be available at the new East Lothian community hospital and when people will be able to access these.

Construction programmes are being finalised for the new facility and the current Roodlands services will be maintained throughout the build programme. NHS Lothian are planning for a phased handover and at this time it is anticipated some outpatient services, such as imaging will be available in the new hospital by mid-2018 with full occupation anticipated in mid-2020.
