To ask the Scottish Executive how many people have been employed in the forestry industry in each year since 1997, broken down by parliamentary constituency.

Information on the number of employee jobs in the forestry industry is collected each year from the Annual Business Inquiry (ABI), which is the official source of employee jobs data. The ABI is run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The most recent year for which data is available is 2007. The data is based on employee jobs rather than the number of people in employment (i.e. one person may have more than one job). The ABI does not include self-employed jobs.

Tables 1 and 2 show the number of employee jobs in the forestry industry by parliamentary constituency in each year since 1997. Due to changes in survey methodology, data for 1997 to 2005 is not directly comparable with data for 2006 to 2007.

Of Scotland''s 73 constituencies, 59 are not included in the tables. This is because the number of employee jobs is either less than 50 or has been suppressed as potentially disclosive. Data are suppressed under the Statistics Trade Act 1947 where the identify of an enterprise who made a statistical return could be deduced. Figures that are less than 50 would be rounded to zero and hence aren''t included.

To ask the Scottish Executive how it intends to support local broadcasting in the Scottish Borders.

The Scottish Government recognises the opportunity that the digital switchover and greater access to online technologies will bring to local television services.

In our response to Ofcom''s Review of Public Service Broadcasting we supported Ofcom''s work into investigating the technical possibilities for developing a network of local television services and we reiterated this in our response to the UK Government''s Digital Britain Interim Report.

To ask the Scottish Executive what action is taken against prisoners who test positive for drug use.

I have asked Mike Ewart, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service, to respond. His response is as follows:

Prisoners who test positive on admission are assessed with a view to determining their health care and support needs. A range of responses exist for those prisoners who test positive during their sentence. These range from being punished through the removal of privileges, to the provision of assessment, support and health care interventions.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many recorded crimes have been committed by people during a period of early release in each year since 1999.

This information is not held centrally.

The Scottish Government does not hold individualised data on any crimes or offences recorded by the eight police forces in Scotland, and as such does not hold information on the nature of the crime or the circumstances that led to the crime being committed. As such it is not possible to identify how many recorded crimes have been committed by people during a period of early release.
