To ask the Scottish Government how it will protect and promote the rights of disabled people, including those guaranteed under international conventions, in light of the reported possible impact of a so-called hard Brexit.

There is no doubt that a hard Brexit will be deeply damaging, but our commitment to delivering transformational change to improve the lives of disabled people remains resolute. Remaining part of the European Single Market will allow greater scope for the continuation of social protections. We also want repatriated EU competence in reserved areas such as employment and equality law to be devolved, to ensure that the Scottish Parliament has the powers to continue to provide the necessary protections for our citizens.

I am committed to ensuring that the rights of disabled people are protected and earlier this month I met with members of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament to talk about the our action plan which demonstrates our commitment to upholding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

To ask the Scottish Government how it supports community-based youth football organisations.

Grassroots football plays an important role in communities in all parts of Scotland, helping boys and girls stay active.

We work closely with a number of organisations to ensure youth football is strong, in particular the Scottish FA, the governing body for football in Scotland, and its affiliated members and association, in particular the Scottish Youth Football Association. Through the Cashback for Communities and other programmes, we also provide funding for facilities and training.

It is also important to recognise the important role the thousands of volunteers play in delivering grassroots football in our communities

To ask the Scottish Government what action it is taking to improve attainment in schools.

The Scottish Government has committed £750m during the course of this Parliament through the Attainment Scotland Fund to provide targeted support for children, schools and communities to close the poverty related attainment gap.

In 2017-18 £120m will be allocated directly to Headteachers on the basis of the numbers of pupils in P1-S3 known to be eligible and registered for free school meals, at a rate of £1,200 per pupil. This funding is on top of the existing £50m Attainment Scotland Funding that will continue to provide targeted support to specific Scottish Attainment Challenge authorities and schools in the communities with high levels of deprivation as well as a number of national programmes.

To ask the Scottish Government how it is supporting communities and the third sector to develop new ways to overcome disadvantage.

A key theme of our funding for the third sector is to maximise the impact of the sector in reducing inequality, and working with communities to tackle tough social issues at source.

For example, over the next two years the Scottish Government will provide £29 million, including £12 million from the European Social Fund, to provide direct support to help Scotland’s social economy and communities to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to poverty.

Our £20 million Empowering Communities Fund also provides local groups the funding and support they need to address local needs and priorities in our most disadvantaged, fragile and rural communities.
