The Scottish Executive has carriedout a total of 28 leak investigation since 1999.

Of the 28 leak investigations:
six documents were originatedby the Environment and Rural Affairs Department;
five by the Development Department;
two by the Health Department;
two by the Education Department;
two by the Enterprise, Transportand Lifelong Learning Department;
two by the Finance and CentralServices Department;
two by the Change and CorporateServices Department;
one by Communities Scotland,and
one by the Scottish Prison Service.
There were five leaked documentswhich could not be attributed to a particular Scottish Executive department oragency.
All leak investigations are undertakenthrough the Executive’s Security Branch and, given the closely interrelated natureof the Executive, investigations are not normally confined to staff within thedepartment which originated a document.
