To ask the Scottish Executive how many attacks on fire fighters there have been in each fire authority region in each of the last five years.
Her Majesty’s Fire Services Inspectorate began compiling figures for attacks on fire service personnel in 2002-03 based on returns from brigades. There are no centrally coordinated statistics for the earlier years.
The figures for 2002-03 are as follows:
Total Number Of Incidents

Operational Personnel | 13 | 3 | 26 | 7 | 0 | 36 | 88 | 14 | 187 |
Non-Operational Personnel | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 2 |
Total | 13 | 3 | 26 | 7 | 0 | 36 | 90 | 14 | 189 |

As the request for brigades to record these incidents was made part way through the reporting year, it should be noted that the information shown represents only a partial picture of the problem of attacks on fire service personnel in 2002-03
Further details can be found in the 2002-03 report of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Fire Services for Scotland.
