To ask the Scottish Government how NHS Lothian provides follow-up support to people who have received deep brain stimulation surgery.
Answer
The Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) service in NHS Lothian is currently in transition following the retirement of the neurosurgeon DBS Specialist.
NHS Lothian are planning to support those patients, who have previously received DBS surgery, with follow up neurosurgical specialist support in NHS Tayside. In addition there is ongoing clinical support provided locally through the board’s network of Clinical Nurse Specialists.
The Managed Service Network for Neurosurgery is aware of the current transitional arrangements in place in NHS Lothian and is working with services to explore future arrangement for DBS services across Scotland.
