Answer
Representations have beenreceived from 11 authorities following publication of the Local GovernmentBoundary Commission for Scotland’s report for their council area. These authoritieswere Angus, City of Edinburgh, Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, Dumfries and Galloway, East Renfrewshire, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Renfrewshire, Shetland Islands, West Dunbartonshire, and West Lothian.

The Accountant in Bankruptcymaintains the Register of Insolvencies in Scotland. Details of bankruptcies are compiled by financial year.The following table gives the number of bankruptcies for the financial years 2001-02to 2005-06. Statistics on how many debtors were student borrowers is not held onthe register.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it has received any representations from post-probation teachers regarding difficulties in obtaining permanent employment.

The Scottish Executive hasreceived 18 representations about 2005-06 probationers having difficulties inobtaining permanent employment. There are around 2,700 post-probationerteachers from this year’s Teacher Induction Scheme.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many teachers registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland are not currently employed in Scottish schools.
Answer
This information is not heldcentrally.
We do know that as at 1April 2006, there were 79,162 people on the General Teaching Council forScotland’s register, of whom 67,364 had their registration fee deducted fromsalary. However, having fees deducted from salary does not equate to beingemployed in Scottish schools - staff in, for example, independent sectorschools, further educaton colleges, universities and local authoritydirectorates might also have fees so deducted and some people employed inschools may choose not to have their fees deducted from salary.
