I take it that that work will be carried on by your successors.

Senga Beresford

I do not think so.

Your letter describes public service reform as being “about renewal, not reduction”, but the programme for government commits to substantially reducing the number of public bodies. How many public bodies will there be in the culture portfolio at the end of this parliamentary session, compared with today, and which statement from your party is true?

Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee [Draft]

Scottish Government Priorities (Intergovernmental Relations)

Meeting date: 8 September 2026

Senga Beresford

No member of the Cabinet has “constitution” in their title, and the First Minister has reportedly taken personal responsibility for constitutional matters, including the pursuit of independence. Who answers to this committee for constitutional policy? Will the First Minister appear before it?

Scottish Government Priorities (Europe, External Affairs and International Development)

Meeting date: 1 September 2026

Senga Beresford

Was the international development fund underspent in any of the past three years, and, if so, what has happened to that money? Do the overseas offices carry out any development function, or is their budget separate from the £16 million budget? How do you assure yourself that funds are never diverted to countries with significant corruption risk? Do you require a local independent audit?

Senga Beresford

I have no registerable interests at all.

Work Programme

Meeting date: 23 June 2026

My initial thoughts on coming in here were that I would just be listening and taking in what had been happening before. I am very interested in the Commonwealth games and why games are an area that is being cut back on. I think that we should invest in sport, so I would like to look into that a bit more.

I am also interested in strengthening our relationship with the EU, business-wise. However, apart from that, as I said, I would like to study this through the summer and come back with some better inputs.

Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee

Deputy Convener

Meeting date: 23 June 2026

Senga Beresford

This is all quite new to me, although, culture-wise, I probably know a wee bit more. At this meeting, I want to sit back and listen, if that is okay, and to hear what members have to say, so that I can spend the summer reading up and getting caught up with what has been happening and what our plans are.
