Thank you.
I have another question that is on a slightly different tack. Data centres generate a lot of waste heat. Kim, you mentioned earlier that there are opportunities to do something with heat—I think that that is how you phrased it. How feasible is it for the waste heat from data centres to be captured and used in heat networks?

That is helpful, and it touches on questions that I had on retrofit versus new build. I have one follow-up question. It is my understanding that, if you take waste heat from any supply, it does not need to be right next to where you are building. You have made the point about the nervousness about data centres being right next to new developments, but it is my understanding that waste heat can travel. Do you have any reflections on that?

I was going to touch on e-waste, because we have seen recent press reports, most recently on the back of a white paper by the Basel Action Network, about hyperscale data centres potentially creating a huge amount of additional toxic e-waste. Servers, batteries and circuit boards, as you say, have a limited lifespan but, as I understand it, they are not currently produced with recycling or reuse in mind. Kat, you touched on the importance of considering e-waste. Do you believe that it is currently receiving enough scrutiny in the planning system?

You mentioned PFAS, so should forever chemicals be included in the guidelines as well?

Thank you.
Hannah Daly and then Rosi Leonard, do you have any reflections on what you see as the opportunities for heat networks linking in with data centres?

How many data centres are you looking at for that quantification?

Kat, do you agree with that?

We discussed with the previous panel the opportunities for heat networks using the waste heat from data centres. I might come to Ronan Kelly first with this question, given that he has just referred to that issue. To what extent have Irish data centres been able to provide waste heat networks? If they have been able to, what sort of offtakers or customers have they been able to serve?

I have one final question, but I am not sure who is best placed to answer it. Given that there has not been much capture of waste heat for heat networks, or, indeed, for other uses, to what extent are data centres currently resulting in a heat island effect and the warming of surrounding properties and landscapes?
