Yes—evidently.

We must ensure that we comply with the UK Government’s subsidy control principles—

I am very confident that we will be able to do so.

We cannot circumvent that process.

As part of the wide array of information that is shared with me in respect of ferry issues, it may well have been the case that, over the summer, something that happened prior to my entering Parliament and taking on a Government position was conveyed to me. I would not want to mislead the committee. However, the specific news story to which you are referring is one that I would have to go and familiarise myself with. I was not listening to or watching the BBC this morning.

I am saying that, at this stage, it would be remiss of me to state that there would or would not be job cuts. I am trying to be as clear as I can be, bearing in mind everything that I have just said, but the work has only just got under way. Inevitably, there will be a conflict between some people’s current roles and the roles that exist within the Government. We will need to respond to that accordingly as part of the wider PSR piece. You know the principles that exist in Government when it comes to such issues.

I was just double checking a point with my official, convener, to make sure that I am as open and transparent with the committee as I can possibly be.

The Glasgow city region deal has a crucial role to play. If I recall correctly, the Clyde metro is one of three projects across Scotland of a similar scale and size that we are seeking to deliver. It is perhaps attracting significant levels of public attention, and rightly so.

Through the city region deal, we are committed to working with partners to progress the project. I am not going to sit here and say that there is a blank cheque when it comes to such matters, because it would be very silly of me to do so; however, through the structures that exist—the officials and the city region deal—we will make sure that there is full communication and partnership working in order to make progress. I imagine that this will be exciting to many people in the local area.

Mr Simpson, I cannot help you with your lack of clarity; that is a matter for you. I am comfortable with the answers that I gave to the convener earlier, and I see no need simply to repeat them for the sake of filling time.

Mr Simpson, that is your perspective.

If I may be so brash as to say this, I do not know, because I was not here. What I can give—
