Decision on Taking Business in Private

The Deputy Convener (Hanzala Malik)

Good afternoon, and welcome to the European and External Relations Committee’s eighth meeting in 2012. I request that all mobiles and other electronic devices be switched off. Apologies have been received from the convener, Christina McKelvie, and I express on behalf of the committee our condolences to her at this very difficult time.

I welcome to the committee Stewart Maxwell MSP, who is attending as a committee substitute for Christina McKelvie. As it is his first time at the committee, I invite him to declare any relevant interests.

Stewart Maxwell (West Scotland) (SNP)

I am not aware of any relevant interests that I have to declare to the committee, but I direct members to my entry in the register of interests on the Parliament website. I say for complete transparency that I am one of the Parliament’s representatives on the European Committee of the Regions, which is relevant to this committee’s work.

Thank you, and welcome.

Item 1 is a decision on whether to take items 5 and 6 in private. Do members agree to take those items in private?

Members indicated agreement.
