Radioactive Substances Exemption (Scotland) Order 2011 (SSI 2011/147)

The Convener (Maureen Watt)

Good afternoon, everybody. I welcome you all to the committee’s eighth meeting in 2011—our final meeting of this parliamentary session. I remind everyone to turn off mobiles and BlackBerrys, as they impact on the broadcasting system.

Our sole item of business is consideration of three negative instruments: the Animal By-Products (Enforcement) (Scotland) Regulations 2011; the Conservation (Natural Habitats &c) Amendment (Scotland) Regulations 2011; and the Radioactive Substances Exemption (Scotland) Order 2011. The Subordinate Legislation Committee has commented only on the Animal By-Products (Enforcement) (Scotland) Regulations 2011, and its comments have been circulated to members. Do members have any questions on any of the instruments, especially the one on which the Subordinate Legislation Committee has commented?

Stewart Stevenson (Banff and Buchan) (SNP)

I note that the Government has responded to the Subordinate Legislation Committee, stating that the typographical errors in the draft Scottish statutory instrument can be dealt with by correction. I am sure that that judgment is based on sound legal advice. The clear intention of the regulations has been placed on the record. That and the committee’s acceptance that those are not serious drafting points mean that we do not need to make any recommendation.

Does the committee agree that we have no recommendations to make on any of the negative instruments?

Members indicated agreement.

The Convener

As this is our last meeting, I thank all committee members for being a really good committee. I am sure that everyone will want to join me in thanking Peter Peacock, who will not be here after next Tuesday. Thank you very much, Peter. We have had our disagreements but, on the whole, we have got through the legislation very well. I wish you all the best in whatever you choose to do in the future.

Thank you very much, convener.

The Convener

I am sure that all members will join me in thanking the clerking team who have helped us to get through this session: Peter McGrath, Nick Hawthorne, James Drummond and Iain Weston. I also thank the people from the Scottish Parliament information centre who have helped us—especially Tom Edwards and Alasdair Reid, not forgetting Wendy Kenyon, who used to work for SPICe. I thank you all and wish you all well in the future.

Meeting closed at 14:05.
