The Scottish Parliament is now dissolved ahead of the election on Thursday 7 May 2026.

During dissolution, there are no MSPs and no parliamentary business can take place.

Parliamentary privilege

The Committee discussed a paper on parliamentary privilege at its meeting on 23 February 2023.

Parliamentary privilege refers to the rights and immunities that protect Parliamentary proceedings and those who take part in them.

The Committee wrote to the individual political parties to seek their views on whether the current protections were sufficient. The Committee considered responses to its letter in October 2023 and decided to take no further action.
